New reviews in Jersey Beat, Revolt Magazine & Big Takeover!

Posted on June 07, 2010 by admin

Revolt Magazine says:
With its incredibly tight songwriting, unabashed melody and constantly shifting genres, it makes for a fun listen that has a little something for everyone, and a lot to like for those who just love music. Whether your musical focus is narrow or ever expanding, this album should be an easy addition to any summer playlist.

Jersey Beat says:
Univox’s music is a hip mix of Modern English, psychedelic Beatles, and a big scoop of indie rock. Yet, instead of say, adopting a couple of salient characteristics of one of those bands, exaggerating them, and adding a informal imprint, Univox seeks a more careful blend, with a lot to add of their own… Throughout the album guitars, vocals, and tight rhythm section are the main ingredients; subtlety and diversity are a bonus. Talented songwriting and offbeat lyrics provide the solid foundation.

Big Takeover says:
In the last issue, I described this promising, Philadelphia, PA psychedelic indiepop rock quartet’s three-song ‘Pi’ EP as being a great debut for the band and that I was really looking forward to the full-length. Well, that day has come and all that can be said is that my humble expectations were completely trumped upon first listen and I’m now on my third. This is not your bog-standard indierock by any stretch and if you want to hear a so-called literate rock band that can actually rock, then you need to check this out. There are no comparisons out there worthy of describing this band. However, fans of bands like the Feelies, Glass Eye, Guided by Voices and Camper Van Beethoven will completely understand where this band is coming from. And they will enjoy this release with equal aplomb. If not, even more so. A very ‘now’ band that has a very bright future ahead. Yes!

Big Takeover Issue #66 is on stands now!
